Format Converter
ChartForge charts in the ini format. The .json format (used by Octave) shifts the MIDI track names, keeps sections in their own track, and stores lyrics in a separate lyrics.txt.
ini to .json
Converts the chart you have open. Pad tracks become PART, 5-fret tracks become PLASTIC, sections move to a SECTION track, and lyrics are written to lyrics.txt alongside info.json.
.json to ini
Pick a .json chart's files (notes.mid, info.json, lyrics.txt and any audio). Track names shift back, sections fold into EVENTS, and lyrics return to PART VOCALS. The converted chart opens right here in the editor.

50%
Offset audio playback in milliseconds. Positive = audio plays later, negative = earlier.
ms
Keep original audio pitch when playing below 1x speed
Higher quality uses more memory and takes longer to build
Notes
Allow open notes to be combined with lane notes on the same tick
When off, sustain edits apply to all notes in a chord
Gap between sustain end and next note

Export
Export tap and open notes as SysEx marker sections (needed by Guitar Hero: World Tour and later). Open notes export as green notes inside open markers, and open note sustains are disabled.
Include note 14 (weak beats) for subdivisions in odd time signatures like 7/8. Beats not on quarter note spacing become weak beats.
Display
Maximum frames per second to render. Higher is smoother but uses more CPU/GPU. Set above 500 to render fully uncapped (lowest input latency).
120 FPS
Draw a dim line on each off-beat ("and") halfway between the main beat lines.
Which venue vocabulary the venue view offers. Only the selected format's events and notes can be placed.
When playback stops or the song ends, jump back to where you hit play.
Invert mouse wheel scroll direction in the vocals and venue views.
When on, double-click a split view panel to switch editing focus to it.

Play a song's video file behind the highway, synced to the chart. Drop a .mp4 or .webm onto the editor, or keep one in the song folder.
Draw Pad notes in the standard green/red/yellow/blue/orange lane colors instead of all purple.
